Philadelphia is showing the signs of autumn’s arrival. There’s a chill in the air, the leaves are starting to turn, and now we’re in the most fall-feeling month of all: October. We’re sure you’re already partaking in pumpkin spiced goodies and a few other fall appropriate activities. Here’s a list of a few things you may not have tried! These tasty ideas, events, and tons more are happening here in Philly and beyond. Take a look!

Let us know, which of these have you already crossed off your own family’s fall bucket list?

  • Drink a pumpkin spice latte: The headquarters for the Saxby’s chain of coffee shops is located here in Philadelphia. Their pumpkin spice latte is famous for its use of brown sugar and real pumpkin in the sauce. Have your seasonal drink with a dash of Philly spice!

  • Shop for fall favorites at Reading Terminal Market: This local institution is awesome all year, but it’s especially fun during the fall months. Grab your pumpkins, apples, and delicious baked goods while enjoying the sights and smells of this favorite spot.

  • Play with your pumpkins: You could enjoy a trip to the pumpkin patch, or you could stop in at Longwood Gardens to let the kids play among the pumpkins (including a 700-pound behemoth) in the Pumpkin Playground.

  • Eat your pumpkin for breakfast: If you decide to visit Reading Terminal Market, be sure to check out Beiler’s Bakery. They cook up delicious doughnuts all year, but make tasty pumpkin filled treats during the autumn months.

  • Frolic with apple butter: Visit the Apple Butter Frolic in Harleysville to immerse yourself in the rich history of the Mennonite communities from that area. Have fun participating in quintessential fall activities and sampling some delicious apple butter at the same time.

  • Have a fall date night: The change in seasons is all you need for an excuse to take a date night. Check out Pumpkin, a restaurant named for this seasonal vegetable! (Don’t worry, this restaurant specializes in local American fare instead of solely pumpkin based treats.)

  • Experience the beauty of fall at Morris Arboretum: The beauty of autumn is everywhere this time of year, but it’s especially beautiful to stroll through the arboretum to take in the changes happening throughout the park.

  • Enjoy the fruits of the grape harvest: The Bucks County Wine Trail Harvest Celebration is a unique way to celebrate this fantastic time of year. Swap out your pumpkin coffee for a delicious glass of local wine during this exciting festival.

  • Grab a slice of fall: Tiffany’s Bakery specializes in tasty baked goods that you’re going to love. Stop in for a slice of the ultimate selection of fall desserts, like her apple pie, sweet potato pie, or Southern style pecan pie.

  • Go to a Halloween fest: The South Street Fall Pumpkin Fest is a great way to celebrate the season in all its glory. Check out this great local neighborhood for games, food, wagon rides and so much more!

  • Pick your own: Possibly the most quintessential fall activities are checking out a pumpkin patch or apple picking. Highland Orchards offers tons of fun for families looking to have fun down on the farm.

We’re excited to hear what you’ve already checked off your own fall to-do lists. These are only a few ideas to get you started planning the ultimate celebration of this wonderful time of year!
