The 30 Minute Routine That Will Save You Hours of Housework
It’s tough to keep your home in top shape on a day-to-day basis. Daily chores can add up and feel overwhelming. But, by tackling your home on a daily basis, you can feel on top of things. Your mind will feel clearer, and you can relax without the nagging feeling of chores. This routine spends 30 minutes at night and in the morning to keep your home tidy and running smoothly.
The Night Before:
A good routine begins with what you do before bed. Thirty minutes could give you the clean slate to make your morning smoother.
Kitchen (10 minutes): Spend ten minutes clearing and wiping the table, washing dishes, loading the dishwasher, and wiping countertops. Run the dishwasher or allow your dishes to dry on racks until morning.
The Household Tornado (5 minutes): Set a timer and walk through each room while gathering clutter. Every member of the family can help with this, and children will enjoy the challenge of the timer. Put your bag, backpacks, shoes, coats, and other morning items where they belong for the following morning. Spend the last minute of this task alternating a wipe-down of your frequently used furniture like coffee tables, end tables, or the television screen.
Floor Care (5 Minutes): Each day, focus on using the vacuum, broom, or dust mop for a quick five minute sweep. Set a timer and don’t aim for perfection. Hit high traffic areas, and then tackle bedrooms and other spots on alternating days. This won’t be a deep cleaning, but it will keep daily things cleaner.
Laundry (10 Minutes): Washing a load of laundry each day is a great method to keep families from getting overwhelmed. Use a sorting laundry hamper to keep loads pre-sorted. This 10 minutes covers the active time of moving laundry from hamper, to washer, to dryer, and makes simple and fast work of folding a single load of clothes. You’ll be amazed at how quick laundry can happen when it’s done regularly! Place clothes in a central location for family members to collect and put away.
The Next Morning:
Depending on your family’s schedule, this 30 minute morning routine could be used in one chunk or split up throughout the morning. Chances are it won’t take you the full 30 minutes. Your preparation the night before will make this quick!
Beds (5 Minutes): Making your bed is a chore that can make you feel ready to embark on the day. Plus, it always feels great to climb into a tidy bed at the end of a long day.
Kitchen (5 Minutes): Put away clean dishes from the night before. Rinse and soak breakfast dishes in the sink or place them in your dishwasher. This will avoid yucky oatmeal bowls or stuck on eggs!
Bathroom (5 Minutes): Your bathroom may not be on your radar when you’re struggling to get out the door. But a quick wipe down before your shower with a disinfectant wipe and a scrub in your toilet bowl can keep things in check. Spray a daily shower cleaner in your shower to stay ahead of shower grime.
Laundry (5 Minutes): Have each family member take their clean laundry and put it away. Gather up dirty pajamas or other clothing and place them in hampers. Then, start a load of laundry.
Trash (5 Minutes): Take a few minutes to gather up trash and recycling from around the house and take it outside. This keeps odors at bay and makes garbage day easier.
Household Tornado (5 Minutes): Before the kids head to school, have them pick up toys, electronics, and books from around the house. Adults can spend five minutes fluffing pillows picking up any other loose items. This will make your home a haven when you return from work at the end of the day.
We hope these tips make your home feel more clean and tidy and ease the arduous task of cleaning your home.
