Summer travel season is officially wrapping up. As the beautiful fall season begins to make its way to Pennsylvania, why not take a chance to enjoy something right in our own backyard? As the leaves change in a few weeks, West Chester and the rest of the Brandywine Valley is a place that can’t be beaten. It has the charm of a historic village with amenities to spare! A day trip or weekend getaway is under an hour away from downtown Philadelphia. Take a look at our ideal weekend staycation getaway.

Where to Sleep

West Chester has plenty of hotel options. None are quite as charming as the historic Hotel Warner, located in the heart of downtown. Situated within walking distance of the amazing shopping that West Chester has to offer, it’s a great place to stay during your visit.

If you’re interested in a more outdoorsy style of accommodation, try a weekend of camping. As fall approaches, it’s peak time for campfires and s’mores. Spend a weekend getting in touch with nature by camping at the West Chester KOA campground.

Where to Dine

Eat a yummy breakfast at the Market Street Grill, voted the best breakfast in town several times. Try one of their plate sized pancakes and we’re sure you’ll agree. Grab lunch at La Baguette Magique. Try some of their delicious fresh baked breads along with their quiches and other lunch favorites.

Have a casual lunch or dinner at Barnaby’s in their laid back atmosphere. Or, dress up for a fancy night out and try a gourmet dinner at Dolce Zola and enjoy their signature authentic pasta dishes.

What to Do

Aside from the awesome local shopping on offer in West Chester, the Brandywine Valley has no shortage of amazing attractions. Visit the Hagley Museum and Library to see some of the special events they offer. You could even join other museum goers for one of their signature Sunday Strolls through the picturesque grounds.

Spend an afternoon perusing and picking your own fruit at the Highland Orchards. Sample delicious donuts and baked goods from their bakery and have fun at one of the many other events they offer.

Drive over to King of Prussia for the day to learn and explore Valley Forge. Even if you’ve visited in the past (or taken school field trip) you should go again. There are tons of things to learn about our nation’s history at this beautiful park.

West Chester and the Brandywine Valley are a gem located right here in Pennsylvania. There are tons of great ideas beyond these listed. Share with us some of your favorite ideas for local staycation fun in the area. We’re always looking for new ideas!
