Outdoor Summer Entertaining Tips

With the warmer weather and summer upon us, it’s time to take to the outdoors with friends and family. If you will be entertaining at your Eastern Pennsylvania or Western New Jersey home this summer these tips are for you.

Bring a little of the inside-outside by creating an outdoor living area.  When it comes to hosting a crowd you want your outdoor furniture to flow.  Bring a few of your indoor pieces to your outside living area when guests are over if your space needs some pizazz.  If you will be hosting a dinner with just a small crowd then bring all the seating areas close together. If your party will be held during the heat of the day provide plenty of shade.

Create a relaxed atmosphere with the right lighting.  Adding lighting via candles or tiki torches is an easy and affordable way to add light to your path. Placement is important when it comes to lighting.  In addition to candles, rope lights are a nice extra touch, and they create the perfect ambiance.

Don’t let bugs ruin a perfect get together.  Use a citronella based candle or torch to help keep bugs at bay.  Another natural way to repel bugs is by using peppermint essential oil in a diffuser or spraying throughout the area of your event.

Keep your guests hydrated throughout your get together by providing a beverage station that is stocked with cold drinks. A galvanized tub filled with ice is a great piece to use that not only looks good but is functional as well.

If there will be kids at your party and you want to keep them cool while having fun have a water balloon piñata. Fill water balloons and tie them to a string that is hung across the yard. Provide the kids with a plastic bat to swing at the balloons and let them enjoy the fun of being splashed with the cool water once they pop.
