Motivate Yourself to Spring Clean with These 6 Tips
Spring cleaning season has arrived along with fresh spring weather. The refreshing change of seasons provides its own motivation to throw open the windows and deep clean the house. Just in case you’re still looking for that final push to get things cleaned up, this post will provide some creative ideas to get you started.
Do Your Prep Work- Think about your strategy for cleaning. Are you hoping to do a Marie Kondo-style purge? Do you want to scrub all the exposed surfaces in your space? Do you just want to get ahead on your daily chores? Spell out your intentions for this year’s spring cleaning. Knowing what you want to do is a great way to approach your project. Set goals for each room of your house. In the week before your day of cleaning, brush up on new tips and tricks from magazines, books, or YouTube videos about cleaning. Preparation will mean your spring cleaning efforts will be easier and more intentional.
Buy New Gear- Your cleaning efforts are only as good as the gear you use. Buy yourself some fresh sponges, rags, and scrub brushes to use throughout the house. New cleaning products (we suggest some of the high-end naturally scented options) can refresh your excitement about a day spent deep cleaning.
Block Off Time- Try taking a personal day from work to spend on your cleaning efforts. If you can’t take a day off, consider clearing your calendar on a weekend day to devote your time to spring cleaning. Take the kids to a friend’s house or a parent’s day out program to intentionally set apart time for the project.
Make Yourself Happy- A mild, sunny day works as a mood enhancer. Use a beautiful day to bolster your cleaning efforts. Throw open the windows and let the fresh air and nature sounds give you even more reason to embark on a deep clean. If you use essential oils, consider diffusing some of your favorite clean scents to make the space smell fresher and more inviting. A happy spring cleaner is an effective spring cleaner!
Listen to Motivation- Whether you’re a podcast listener, a playlist junkie, or love a good audiobook, your cleaning time can be a fun listening time. Motivate yourself with something new and exciting in your headphones to pass the time.
Reward Your Efforts- If you ran a marathon you’d get to go to an after-party, right? Reward your marathon cleaning day with something special. Plan to have friends over for dinner and enjoy your cleaning up efforts, go get a manicure or facial, or buy something special for completing your deep clean. Knowing that there’s a reward for all the scrubbing and sorting can give you a reason to keep going.
If you want to enter into spring with clean digs and a fresh perspective, try some of these tips.
