May’s Most Important Maintenance Tips
We’re officially into the month of May at this point. The early spring has given way to the month that ushers in summer in a few short weeks. With each season and each month, there are some maintenance tasks that you’ll need to check off your to-do list right away.
· Windows- Give your windows a good spring cleaning. Get off any of the early spring pollen buildup and any grime from the previous year. Your entire home will feel cleaner and brighter with this simple fix. Check your window screens for any holes. You’ll want to open your windows up during these pleasant months, and you don’t want to invite pests into your home.
· Sidewalks- Check for any cracks that could have appeared following the temperature fluctuation of winter. Replace or fix any missing stones in your walkways. These not only look bad, but can cause a tripping hazard to visitors.
· Driveway- May is a great time to reseal your driveway. Make sure the forecast is in cooperation (no rain!) and then take a day to reseal your asphalt. Before sealing, assess the driveway for any cracks that may have appeared. Fix those areas, then get to work with a commercial sealer.
· Grill- You know you’ll want to grill soon. (If not now!) Make sure that the hardest working backyard accessory is in good working order. Scrub the grates to remove any buildup, refill gas canisters for gas grills, and clean the walls of your grill’s interior. Replace any rusted or broken parts to ensure perfect steaks and delicious burgers this summer!
· Mower- You may have already used your mower for the season. Even so, take a chance to change the oil, replace dull blades, and replace spark plugs. Mowers get a lot of use over the spring and summer months, make sure it’s up to the task.
· Air Conditioner- Check your air conditioner to make sure it’s ready to go before the first hot days. Check any hoses, replace your air filters, and test it out. If you notice any issues, book a professional as soon as possible before they begin to fill up!
· Lawn- It’s not hard to remember to take care of your lawn in the spring and summer. Weeds love to make themselves known and grass starts growing at warp speed. In addition to weeding and fertilizing your yard, take stock of your flower beds. Put down new mulch or some fresh and bright flowers to spruce up your curb appeal.
May’s maintenance won’t take you too long to accomplish. Tackle this list early in the month so you’ll have less to worry about around the house as the weather gets hotter and these projects are less fun to complete. Good luck!
