Get More Productive Around the House
Home upkeep takes a lot of work. There will always be projects, repairs, cleaning jobs, and general upkeep to take up your time and energy. When we’re at home, we all want to be able to enjoy the space and relax, but if there is work to be done, it can overwhelm. Figuring out how to make yourself productive is a step in the right direction to save valuable time and energy for your life around the house.
You’ve likely learned some productivity hacks around the office. Your life is spent in your home; why not apply some of these hacks to your household chores and maintenance tasks. Try some of these, you’ll be glad you did!
Create Routines- A routine is the key to housekeeping. Setting up simple and effective routines will help you to accomplish more and keep you on top of your home’s to-do list.
Make a 15 Minute Rule- Filling in nail holes or hanging a picture can get pushed further down the to-do list. Many small household projects will take 15 minutes or less to accomplish. Set a timer and see what you can accomplish within this time-frame. Make a deal with yourself, if you can’t get it done in 15 minutes, you can walk away from the task. We bet you’ll likely get more done than you think!
Use Sticky Notes- Write your daily household to-do list on a sticky note. If it doesn’t fit, then do it another day. It has been said that what fits on a sticky note is what you can feasibly accomplish in one day. Try out this hack to manage what you get done.
Decide if Your Time is More Valuable- If you’re wasting hours on the weekend doing yard work, it may make more sense for you to hire someone. If you work long hours or have a demanding job, you may find that hiring a housekeeper is smart. Know when your time is more important than the cost.
Capitalize on Your Productive Hours- Figure out when you can get the most done. For some it could mean waking up an hour earlier to do some laundry or cleaning before the day begins. Others find that they use the evening hours better. Ask yourself when you’re the most energized and capitalize on it.
Clear Your Schedule for Maintenance- Set aside time for important tasks. Clearing your calendar makes you feel like you aren’t being pulled in other directions and gives you focused time to accomplish a task.
Set Alerts - Yearly and monthly tasks will be easier if you know they’re coming up. Set reminders to change air filters or clear your gutters. Remind yourself before these tasks become expensive repair projects or get out of hand.
Stop the Quest for Perfection- Let go of perfection. Wasting your energy on perfection likely means you won’t get things done as you should. Aim to get things done and do them well, but don’t stress yourself out.
Schedule in Breaks- Wearing yourself out will likely end in a day feeling like you’ve wasted your efforts. Try making rest a priority. Use timers, alarms, or other means to make rest an important component to your productivity.
What Makes You Productive?- Take an honest look at yourself and what you can accomplish. Ask yourself when you feel the most productive and when you’re unable to get much done. Learn more about yourself to make your work more focused and less wasteful.
These hacks can make your life easier and your to-do list more manageable. Let us know, how do you get it all done? What tips and tricks do you use to make yourself more productive around the house?
