Art galleries are incredible places to shop for art, if your budget allows it. For most homeowners, custom art pieces just aren’t always going to be in the budget. Or, if you’re just starting out or decorating a new or larger home for the first time, you might need to explore some options that are more budget friendly while covering up bare wall space.

This guide has plenty of ideas for creating a home filled with unique art pieces that aren’t mass produced prints from the big box stores.

Take a look!

Framed Photos from Photography Books- Find a book that features photos in a style that you love. The high quality printing in a coffee table book makes for great art prints. We love this one that celebrates the beauty in forests! (Maybe purchase two copies if you want to keep one as a coffee table book.) Using a craft blade, cut out pages to display and place them in frames for gorgeous photo art.

Make Kid Art Special- If your little Picasso makes something extra special, consider framing it. A selection of multiple pieces kid art hung in a long hallway, gallery style, will make for a sweet statement. These frames would be perfect for displaying art from tiny hands.

Photos With Ample Mat Coverage- If you have a candid family portrait, consider printing it and framing it. An 8x10 photo print in a larger frame with a wide mat will look higher end than an 8x10 photo on its own. These frames are a great example!

Create Word Art- If there’s a phrase you love, consider designing it in a graphic design software and ordering poster sized prints of a pretty quote to frame. This can be done easily through Canva. They even offer printing services.

Plates- If you have a collection of beautiful vintage or antique plates, you can display them on a dining room wall for a ton of impact. The plates could be mismatched, one style or brand, or a rainbow of your favorite colors. This classic decorators trick is a great way to get the plates out of your china cabinet and displayed for the world to admire. These hangers make easy work of displaying without damaging plates.

Frame Fabric Swatches- If you love a fabric but it’s out of your budget for curtains or pillows, consider buying a large swatch to frame. Simply stretch the fabric around the backerboard of a frame and put the piece behind glass. The fabric will make a fun statement without costing much at all!

See Artwork Everywhere- You may have received a beautiful greeting card whose cover is art. You might find that a postcard in a gift shop is the perfect way to add a splash of color to a wall. A pretty napkin can look fancy when it’s popped into a frame. See the art around you in your daily life.

Hit the Thrift Stores- There is art hiding in thrift stores, it just takes some time to poke around and find it. Look for quirky vintage pieces to group into a gallery wall for maximum impact.

You Are the Artwork- A bold mirror reflects more light into a room, adds some shine, and reflects the beauty and people in a space. Consider adding a mirror to a room when you’re looking to fill walls for the first time. Decorators use mirrors for more than just checking outfits and makeup, a good mirror is a perfect piece for when you’re looking to add that special something to a space
